Under Maryland law, there is a certain category of crimes that can be expunged from you record (even if it resulted in a conviction). That’s right, if you were found guiltyof any of these “nuisance” crimes, you still may be able to erase the convictions from public inspection. Just because a crime is “minor” or simply carries a fine only, it can still create a Maryland criminal record for you. Unfortunately, even a conviction for a minor Maryland crime will show up on a background check and may stop you from obtaining a security clearance, employment, and any number of other things.
For a list of these crimes, check out Guide To Expungement Nuisance Crimes.

twenty five years ago in maryland I was convicted of a misdemeanor theft under 8 dollars. I took a pack of file cards in my pocket what can I do to get this off my record and can you help me?
Hi Todd,
Please contact my office at your convenience. Generally speaking, if the charge resulted in a conviction, it cannot be expunged. However, I’m happy to look it up for you and determine if you are eligible.
Almost 6 years ago my boyfriend caught some charges. He plead guilty to 1st degree burgury and 2nd degree assualted. Since pleading quilty in 2006 he did almost 2 years in jail. He completed 3 years of probation and paid all his resitution. He has not been in trouble since those charges. We have been getting turned down for low income housing b/c his record. We have 3 children and need to see if we can get his record expunge so we can move on with life. Do you think he would have a chance or not if we went to the court?
I have assault charge on my record, but it was NP but on back ground check it said convicted how can i fix this how quick so i can get back to work?
Hello,
I am a 25 year old Iraq war veteran and need some help with getting a charge expunged. In June 2010 I was given a attempted 4th degree burglary charge. I never broke into the house, just broke the screen window. The whole story is long and ridiculous, but I cannot change the courts terrible decision of my innocence. I read that with a Pbj I need to wait 3 years since the disposition to file for expungement. Is there anyway to try to get this taken off any earlier? This fourth degree burglary is making it almost impossible for me to find a good job. I am a college graduate and a war veteran, one little mistake has taken a pretty big toll on my life.
