As soon as you’re charged, arrested, or pulled over in Maryland, its important to act fast. I’m not just saying that because I’m a Maryland attorney and am attempting to pressure you to hire me quickly. Nope, that’s not it.
Hiring an attorney early is a strategic advantage. Resolving a charge is all about strategy.
I’ll give you a great example. I was representing someone in court today for a Maryland DUI case. The case was more than a year old. When my client initially came to court, he didn’t have an attorney. On the next court date, he didn’t show up. This was the third court date. He was already at a disadvantage because if we happened to have a “bad judge” or an unreasonable prosecutor, we wouldn’t be able to get the case postponed (or weazle out of it).
As it turned out, the State was NOT ready. The officer was not available. Guess what? The State got a postponement because my client already had two postponements. I think there was a good chance that the judge would have denied the request had my client acted much earlier…….If the State’s request was denied, they would have had to drop the charge.
So, retain a lawyer ASAP. It could actually make all the difference.
