Charged with Hit and Run in Rockville? We’ve Got Your Back.
A hit and run charge — officially called Leaving the Scene of an Accident — can be one of the most stressful experiences a driver faces. Maybe you panicked, didn’t realize there was damage, or thought no one was hurt. This is a very common human reaction!
At the Law Offices of David R. Waranch, we’ve helped drivers throughout Rockville and Montgomery County handle these complex cases with skill, compassion, and proven results.
You made a mistake — now let’s protect your record, your license, and your future.
What Maryland Law Says About Leaving the Scene
Under §20-104 of the Maryland Transportation Article, you are required to stop immediately after an accident involving property damage, injury, or death. Failing to do so can lead to severe criminal and MVA consequences.
Depending on the situation, penalties may include:
- Up to 1 year in jail and fines up to $1,000 if someone was injured
- Up to 60 days in jail and fines up to $500 for property damage only
- Up to 5 years in jail if someone was “seriously” injured
- Up to 10 years in jail if the accident caused a death
- License suspension or revocation by the MVA
- Eight to twelve (8–12) points on your driving record
Even if no one was hurt, a conviction can affect your insurance, employment, and driving privileges for years.
How a Rockville Hit and Run Lawyer Can Help
Every hit and run case is unique — and often, there’s more to the story than the police report shows. A strong defense can make all the difference. We can:
- Review evidence and witness statements for inconsistencies
- Make sure the State can actually prove the case and appropriate challenge it
- Negotiate with prosecutors to reduce or dismiss charges
- Represent you in Rockville District Court and handle MVA hearings
Our goal is to minimize damage, protect your license, and keep your record clean whenever possible.
