Yesterday, I received a call from a potential new client who was in a panic. Apparently, his Maryland driver’s license had been revoked. After speaking with him for a few minutes, here’s what I learned:
He was charged with driving an uninsured vehicle. He went to court without a lawyer. The prosecutor said, “just plead guilty, I won’t offer jail time, and I’ll recommend a reduced fine.” He thought that was great. He pled guilty, got his fine, and skipped out of court. He had no idea that he just destroyed his traffic record.
Since the charge carries 12 points, he was revoked. He did not ask for a PBJ nor did the judge that day offer it. The good news: he still has time to appeal the case and he hired me to clean up the mess.
Here’s the lesson: What may seem minor and harmless can screw you up. If you’re facing a Maryland traffic charge of any kind, at least consult with a Maryland traffic lawyer.
